When it comes to skincare, one of the things we hear over and over again is how important it is to exfoliate on a regular basis. Removing the dead skin cells that accumulate on your face means having brighter, fresher, and more youthful skin which is something we could all use! Using store bought exfoliators is certainly an option but risk facing possible allergies, chemicals, or additives when you can easily make your own scrub at home?! Making a scrub is simple and easy and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing exactly what you’re using on your face and body! Here are three easy and simple scrubs to try at home!
1. Honey, Lemon and Sugar Scrub
For this scrub you’ll need the juice of half a lemon, 1 tablespoon of honey and olive oil each, and a half cup of sugar. Mix all of these ingredients together and scrub your face and body vigorously. Wash off with warm water and you’ll skin will instantly be glowing. When it comes to adding sugar in your scrubs, know that there are three basic kinds of sugar available for you to use: regular granulated sugar, brown sugar, and raw sugar. Raw sugar and brown sugar contain larger granules of sugar while white sugar is more fine and almost powder like. You’re bound to get a good scrub with all of them but if you really want to slough off dead skin then it’s best to use white sugar because of its consistency.
2. Honey and Almond Scrub
Not only is this scrub amazing for your skin, it smells heavenly. Mix together two tablespoons of almond powder and two tablespoons of honey. You can easily find almond powder at almost all grocery stores in the baking section. If you’re unable to find it, you can make it at home by blanching a cup of almonds in water for a few hours, peeling off the skin and blending them together. This scrub is especially great for you face and shoulders. If you’re looking for a tougher consistency, add in 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar. The almond powder should be sufficient to do the scrubbing though.
3. Lemon and Sugar Scrub
For this scrub you’ll need one cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest. Mix the ingredients together and use. You can keep the rest in a glass jar and store for up to two months at room temperature.
We hope you’ll have fun trying these new scrubs!
