How to Find the Right Moisturizer

It may not seem like it, but the right moisturizer is just as important as the right foundation color. If it’s not right for your skin, the result is a big ‘ole mess. The best offense is a good defense when it comes to skincare, so be sure to arm yourself with the absolute perfect moisturizer. Follow these guidelines to explore the magnificent world of moisturizers and how you can best select the right one for you.

Shopping for skincare is no easy fete when there’s tons of products out there to choose from. From dirt cheap bottles of petroleum jelly to super expensive designer options, skin moisturizer is one of those things that, while inexpensive, can go a long way. Some of the cheapest moisturizers have proven to be most reliable. Don’t resort to pricey brands just for the sake of the label.

The hottest new lip color may be at the top of your shopping list, but it’s moisturizers and cleansers that are most important for softening skin. Moisturizer works by sealing in the outer layer of skin’s moisture by using moisture from the skin’s inner layer. Ingredients like lanolin, petrolatum, Glycerin and proteins seal in moisture by attracting water. Other moisturizers contain ingredients like alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates dead skin. Look for ingredients like these to get the most out of moisturizers.

Moisturizers containing sunscreen are another great way to use the stuff best to your advantage. Be sure to apply moisturizer to damp skin in order to get the best application. For oily skin, light, oil-free varieties are best while dry skin best benefits from richer formulas. For best results, use a moisturizer containing retinol right before bed. The vitamin A found within increases the speed of cell turnover.

Prescription moisturizers may be necessary for very dry skin. Ask about those containing AHA lactic acid to soften the top layer of skin, resulting in more supple skin.

Studies have shown that dirt cheap products and super expensive designer products produce the same exact results. I know some people who swear by their super expensive products, but is it just a placebo effect. Girls don’t be fooled. Try the less expensive brands before opting for the expensive stuff.
