Those of us who suffer from acne know how frustrating it can be. Just when you begin think the redness from you acne is finally receding, a new worry pops into your head: the scarring that the acne will leave behind. It can take months and even years for acne scars to fade and sometimes even with time the scars still remain. However, there are ways to alleviate the signs of acne scarring. By taking certain precautions you can reduce and even prevent the appearance of acne scars!

Now, you’ve probably heard this tip a million times before but that’s because it actually works. Don’t squeeze or pick at your acne! By squeezing pimples there is likely to be deep scarring left behind on your skin because squeezing it irritates the inflammation that already exists and makes it worse. A pimple happens when oil, dirt or other impurities build up in your pores. When you squeeze a pimple those impurities get pushed down further into your pores and subsequently take longer to heal and have a much greater impact on your skin. It may seem that by squeezing your pimple it will go away sooner but it actually does the opposite. The redness lasts for a longer time and there is a much higher risk of getting a scar.

Did you know that your diet can have a huge impact on your skin? Certain foods are more likely to help you avoid acne altogether and reduce scarring. These foods include avocados, berries, and olive oil. Any foods that have a high quantity of antioxidants will help to keep your skin glowing. Also make sure to include a high quantity of nuts in your diet like cashews, walnuts, and almonds. Nuts are known to be great for skin and help to flush impurities out of your system.

Fresh lemon juice is another trick that’s been known to help reduce the signs of acne scars. Lemon contains natural properties that are known to lighten the area they are placed on. Since scars are an over pigmentation of an area on your skin, by applying lemon juice the scars will lighten in color and become less visible. When applying lemon juice to your skin make sure to dilute it with water because it can be very harsh otherwise.

Besides lemon, you can apply aloe vera, honey, and mashed bananas directly on to your skin to help quickly alleviate any signs of acne scars!

These tips will leave you with smooth, glowing skin in no time!
