How to Tame a Thick Mane

For most women, the common consensus is: the bigger the hair, the better. But such is not the case for super starlets like Selena Gomez, who — while adorable — possess a combination of features that can easily be overwhelmed by larger-than-life hairstyles with thick, lustrous hair. A blessing and a curse, super thick hair can make for some fabulous ‘dos, but can also carry the burden of poor manageability. There is such a thing as too much hair. Keep it in check by opting for these easy hairstyles that maximize the allure of a thick, shiny mane.

Not only can an overabundance of hair deter from a gorgeous face, but it can totally take attention away from a fabulous ensemble, as well. If your natural mane has got way too much going on, try a layered look on your next trip to the salon. Layering is known to reduce volume, but you can also trim a few inches off for a more proportionate look. Less hair can result in the appearance of a slimmer face, as well.

The simplest way to tame an unruly mane? Bust out the straightener. Ironing hair automatically makes it more manageable, resulting in a sleek and chic look that puts a gorgeous face front and center. For gals with naturally curly or wavy locks, simply apply a leave-in product like argan oil to towel dried hair and blow-dry straight with a large-barrelled round brush. Next, use a flat iron and a spritz of glossy spray to solidify this hot, hot look.

Another “duh” trick to making super thick hair more manageable is to throw it up in a pony tail that’s bound to look sleek. Braids are another gorgeous option for flaunting oodles of hair to the fullest. We recommend an ethereal fish braid paired with a faux leather vest and leather leggings for a fun night out on the town.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so if chopping off all your locks is what it takes to get a sexy, sleek look, then go for it. Shoulder-grazing bob hairstyles are ideal for a chic look that’s bound to turn heads and highlight a flawless face. Add hints of fall by way of dark, smokey eye or dark burgundy lipstick and you’re ready to rock any autumn time event in a cinch.

I have extremely thick hair and one issue I have is find the right hairstylist. I feel like a lot of hairstylists are not accustomed to working with thick hair. Always choose a hairstylist who also has thick hair.
