Lipstick Ready Lips

All of us girls know that swiping on some lipstick is one of the easiest ways to transform how we look. The rich, pigmented color that comes from lipstick can’t be replicated by any other lip product. However, did you know that by taking a few easy steps before putting on your lipstick you can make it look even better than it normally does? In the cooler months and even in the summer our lips can get chapped and dry from weather conditions, dehydration, and air conditioning. Putting lipstick on over chapped lips will only exacerbate the problem. The lipstick will cling to the dry skin on your lips and the application will look messy. Even if your lips aren’t visibly chapped, taking a few easy and quick measures will ensure that they’re perfectly ready for that coat of lipstick.

To prep your lips, first apply a heavy coat of lip balm or Vaseline to your lips. Make sure the balm that you apply is heavy. A few great options are the EOS lip balms, Burt’s Bees and  TokyoMilk. Once you’ve applied the balm leave it on for at least 10 – 15 minutes. After 10 – 15 minutes you will notice that any dead skin you had on your lips will start to become soft. After your lips feel soft to the touch take a sugar based exfoliator and slough off all of the dead skin you can. If you don’t have an exfoliator that specifically for your lips, add some sugar to your regular face wash and use it as a substitute. You can use your finger to scrub but you can also use your toothbrush if you’d like. The bristles will make sure to get off all of the dead skin.

Now that all of the dead skin is off you’ll see and feel a huge difference in how your lips look. Now you’re ready to apply your lipstick.

If you want the color you’re using to really stand out, you can take your concealer and apply a light layer over your lips. The neutral color of the concealer will play down the natural color of your lips and ensure that the lipstick looks bright and bold.

After you’ve completed this step, take a lip liner that’s similar to the color of the lipstick you are using and lightly line your lips for some added definition and to ensure that the color of your lipstick stays in place. This is especially important if you’re using red lipsticks because they tend to run more than any other color.

Now that you’re lips are lined its time for the final step: applying your lip color. Use a brush for more precision and always start below the cupid’s bow!

With these easy steps your lipstick will look even more incredible than it normally does!
